Dr. Nicole Spartano awarded Alzheimer’s Association Research Grant
Congratulations to FHS investigator Nicole Spartano, PhD (right) for her recent Alzheimer’s Association Research Grant (AARG) award for “Physical Inactivity, Epigenetic Aging, and Preclinical Dementia”. Dr. Spartano plans to study the role of physical activity in healthy brain aging by exploring the biological basis for early brain aging in Framingham Heart Study participants. This study will evaluate a younger population than previously assessed and aims to determine whether physical activity and sedentary patterns impact brain structure.
The Alzheimer’s Association is the largest nonprofit funder of Alzheimer’s research in the world, having awarded more than $410 million to more than 2,700 scientific investigations since 1982. Their mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research, provide and enhance care and support for all affected, and reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.
Congratulations Dr. Spartano! And thank you to the FHS participants who make these studies possible!
