Tuhina Neogi, MD, PhD to be as the Alan S. Cohen, MD Professor of Rheumatology
The Framingham Heart Study wishes to congratulate FHS investigator Tuhina Neogi, MD, PhD on her upcoming installation as the Alan S. Cohen, MD Professor of Rheumatology.
Dr. Neogi is a rheumatologist and epidemiologist whose research has focused primarily on risk factors for knee osteoarthritis and gout, pain mechanisms in knee osteoarthritis, as well as methodologic issues of relevance for rheumatic diseases.
Dr. Neogi has served as an FHS investigator for a number of years. She leads the first FHS ancillary study of pain to be embedded within an FHS cohort exam. Her study CAPSITE: Community Assessment of Pain and Sensitization In The Elderly is included in the Offspring, Examination 10, Omni 1 Examination 5 (2019 – present). The CAPSITE team is currently examining pain experienced in the daily lives of participants to better understand why some people have more pain than others. They aim to understand the epidemiology of various chronic overlapping pain conditions (COPC), regardless of anatomy or diagnosis involved, the evolution of COPC over time, neurophysiologic alterations in pain processing as risk factors for COPC and its evolution, and consequences of COPC and altered pain processing in older adults.
Dr. Neogi is currently the Section Chief of Rheumatology the Boston University School of Medicine and Chief of Rheumatology at the Boston Medical Center.
