Dr. Joseph Massaro received his PhD in Mathematics from Boston University in 1994. He is a Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at the Boston University School of Public Health. Dr. Massaro has been with the Framingham study since 1998, assisting in the oversight of the data management group, and performing statistical analysis with a focus on risk prediction in collaboration with other Framingham statisticians and investigators. His primary research interests are cardiovascular disease and cognitive function.

Dr. Massaro has approximately 30 years of experience in the design and analysis clinical trials. Prior to joining Boston University and the Framingham Heart Study, he was Assistant Director of Data Management and Biostatistics at Quintiles, a contract research organization providing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. In addition, Dr. Massaro’s courses at BU SPH focus on clinical trials. He has received Excellence in Teaching awards for these courses.

Dr. Massaro’s publications include statistical analysis and methodology on topics such as cardiovascular disease, cognitive function, and clinical trials. His research has appeared in the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Encyclopedia of Biostatistics, the Encyclopedia of Clinical Trials, and Statistics in Medicine. His professional association memberships include the American Statistical Association, the Drug Information Association, and the Society for Clinical Trials.
