FHS Committee Restructuring Town Hall

On Monday, May 16, 2022 the FHS Committee Restructuring Town Hall was held to discuss exciting upcoming changes to FHS committee structure and how investigators can be involved in making the study more open, responsive, and effective.

Two new committees, i.e., FHS Advisory Investigators Committee (FAIC) and Ancillary Proposal Review Committee (APRC), will be formed, while some other existing committees will be combined. The Executive Committee will also undergo a restructuring and will be open to new membership.

Key recommended changes in the current FHS committee structure will include:

  • Creation of new committees to increase transparency and accountability and to respond to demand for review of an increased number of ancillary study grant proposals
  • The expansion of membership of key committees to include mission-critical-domain expertise and competency-based appointments
  • Inclusion of women, under-represented groups and mid-career and early-stage investigators (ESI)
  • Inclusion of non-BU and external members and investigators engaged in FHS ancillary studies
  • The introduction of term limits for committee membership, thereby expanding opportunities for participation in FHS activities to a larger pool of investigators
  • Consolidation of committees with convergent interests

Interested investigators may nominate themselves or colleagues for the new FHS committees using the “FHS Committee Nomination Form” linked below.

Appreciatively,

Yuling Hong, NHLBI Program Officer; Joanne Murabito and George O’Connor, Co-FHS Principal Investigators; and the FHS new committee structure implementation team
